La correspondencia que ambos intercambiaron a lo largo de toda la vida es el testimonio de la intensidad de esta relaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Tras recibir una esmerada educaci\u00f3n en un internado privado, con diecis\u00e9is a\u00f1os entr\u00f3 como aprendiz en la filial de La Haya de la galer\u00eda de arte parisina Goupil &amp; Cie., fundada por su t\u00edo Vincent; all\u00ed conoci\u00f3 las obras de la escuela de Barbizon.<\/p>\n<p>El traslado de Van Gogh a Londres en 1873 se\u00f1al\u00f3 el inicio de una primera etapa creativa. Tras un rechazo amoroso, se volvi\u00f3 cada vez m\u00e1s solitario, hasta que en 1878 se vio impelido por la necesidad de entregarse a sus semejantes, y tras intentar estudiar teolog\u00eda, decidi\u00f3 satisfacer su vocaci\u00f3n uni\u00e9ndose a los mineros de la Borinage. En este per\u00edodo realiz\u00f3 una serie de dibujos de los mineros.<\/p>\n<p>Hacia 1880, tras ser expulsado por su excesiva implicaci\u00f3n, descubri\u00f3 en la pintura su aut\u00e9ntica vocaci\u00f3n, consider\u00e1ndola una v\u00eda para consolar a la humanidad. En los primeros a\u00f1os de la d\u00e9cada de 1880 estudi\u00f3 con diversos pintores, entre los que cabe destacar a Anton Mauve. Su r\u00e1pida evoluci\u00f3n y el conocimiento de los impresionistas lo llevaron a abandonar la ense\u00f1anza acad\u00e9mica y a reunirse con Theo en Par\u00eds en 1876.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_75\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-75\" style=\"width: 274px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/rafaramirez.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/van_gogh_autorretrato.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-75 size-medium\" title=\"Vincent Van Gogh - Autorretrato\" src=\"https:\/\/rafaramirez.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/van_gogh_autorretrato-274x300.jpg\" alt=\"Vincent Van Gogh - Autorretrato\" width=\"274\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-75\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Vincent Van Gogh &#8211; Autorretrato<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Su hermano le present\u00f3 a Pissarro, Seurat y Gauguin, y esta situaci\u00f3n coincidir\u00eda con la definici\u00f3n de su pintura. Su paleta se torn\u00f3 definitivamente colorista y su visi\u00f3n, menos tradicional, dando forma a su personal visi\u00f3n del postimpresionismo. Su inter\u00e9s por el color y por la captaci\u00f3n de la naturaleza lo indujo a trasladarse a Arles, donde su obra fue progresivamente expresando con mayor claridad sus sentimientos sobre lo representado y su propio estado mental.<\/p>\n<p>Con la pretensi\u00f3n de crear el grupo de los \u00abimpresionistas del sur\u00bb, Van Gogh alquil\u00f3 una casa donde invit\u00f3 a los artistas con quienes compart\u00eda intereses y en la que Gauguin pasar\u00eda dos meses. La primera crisis mental, en la que se cort\u00f3 parte de la oreja izquierda, tuvo lugar en la Navidad del mismo a\u00f1o 1888.<\/p>\n<p>En abril del a\u00f1o siguiente, ante el temor a perder su capacidad para trabajar, pidi\u00f3 ser ingresado en el hospital psiqui\u00e1trico de Saint-R\u00e9my-de-Provence donde permaneci\u00f3 doce meses. Tras sufrir diversos ataques y ante la imposibilidad de salir al exterior a pintar, realiz\u00f3 obras relacionadas con el hospital, retratos de m\u00e9dicos y reinterpretaciones de obras de Rembrandt, Delacroix y Millet.<\/p>\n<p>La p\u00e9rdida de contacto con la realidad y una progresiva sensaci\u00f3n de tristeza son las claves de este per\u00edodo en el que Van Gogh desarroll\u00f3 un estilo basado en formas din\u00e1micas y en el uso vigoroso de la l\u00ednea, de lo cual result\u00f3 una pintura m\u00e1s intr\u00e9pida y visionaria que la de Arles.<\/p>\n<p>Sin conseguir superar el estado de melancol\u00eda y soledad en que se encontraba, en mayo de 1890 se traslad\u00f3 a Par\u00eds para visitar a su hermano Theo. Por consejo de \u00e9ste, viaj\u00f3 a Auvers-sur-Oise, donde fue sometido a un tratamiento homeop\u00e1tico por el doctor, y pintor aficionado, Paul-Ferdinand Gachet.<\/p>\n<p>En este peque\u00f1o pueblo retrat\u00f3 el paisaje y sus habitantes, intentando captar su esp\u00edritu. Su estilo evolucion\u00f3 formalmente hacia una pintura m\u00e1s expresiva y l\u00edrica, de formas imprecisas y colores m\u00e1s brillantes. Pese a que unos meses m\u00e1s tarde el doctor Gachet consider\u00f3 que se encontraba plenamente curado, su estado de \u00e1nimo no mejor\u00f3 debido a los sentimientos de culpa provocados por la dependencia de su hermano Theo y por su fracaso profesional.
